Development of a Standardized Clinical Internship Program
In 2011, Vietnam’s National Assembly passed the Law on Examination and Treatment requiring all medical graduates to complete an 18-month clinical internship program in order to be eligible for a medical license. In collaboration with the WHO, HAIVN is currently providing technical assistance to the MOH in the development and implementation of this new post-graduate clinical training program. As an initial step, HAIVN worked with the Administration of Science Training and Technology (ASTT) of the MOH to survey 10 hospitals in order to understand the current system of post-graduate medical education available to medical graduates immediately after graduation, and the mechanisms, processes and procedures in place through which junior doctors are recruited, taught, supported and assessed. This data will help the MOH to develop standardized guidance to teaching hospitals for implementation of the new internship program.
