Vietnam’s Ministry of Health (MOH); the Improving Access, Curriculum and Teaching in Medical Education and Emerging Diseases (IMPACT-MED) Alliance, supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID); the World Health Organization; and Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy is organizing the3rd National Vietnam Medical Education Conference – Achieving Competency in Medical Education on November 15 – 16 in Hai Phong city.

On September 25-26, 2019, the Vietnam Ministry of Health Delegation, led by H.E. Ass. Professor Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, Minister of Health, Socialist Republic of Vietnam, visited Harvard Medical School to conduct a mid-term review of the MOU signed on July 24^th, 2017 outlining the cooperation between Harvard Medical School (HMS) and the Vietnam Ministry of Health (MOH).

The IMPACT-MED Alliance, supported by USAID, is a Global Development Alliance bringing together a diverse group of public and private sector partners. The project goal is to build a strong and effective health workforce in Vietnam that is able to respond to 21st century priorities and to contribute to the health resilience and health security of the country.

Strong and effective leadership is crucial to achieving a successful and sustainable reform in the medical education system in Vietnam. Effective leaders must be champions of innovation, build a culture that values diversity and inclusion, empower their staff to make change, anticipate and manage resistance, maintain strategic focus, and encourage systems thinking and collaboration across many disciplines.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Improving Access, Curriculum and Teaching in Medical Education and Emerging Diseases (IMPACT-MED) Alliance, supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), was pleased to organize the 2nd National Vietnam Medical Education Conference – “Clinical Teaching to Transform Healthcare Professionals” on December 1-2, 2018 in Hue.

Today, September 10^th, 2018, Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy (TNUMP) organize the opening ceremony for school year 2018-2019. This year, TNUMP launched a new medical education curriculum for general doctors of 2018-2019 academic year. 

On June 14th, IMPACT MED in partnership with Vietnam National Children’s Hospital (VNCH) and MSD -  a private partners of IMPACT MED Alliance to organize a workshop on antimicrobial stewardship (AMS), which was attended by representatives from international organizations such as

IMPACT MED project coordinated with MOH Health Professional Education and Training (HPET) project and Thai Nguyen UMP to organize 3-days international workshop on Pre-Clinical Curriculum Reform (11 – 13 June 2018) – with the objective is to support 4 UMPs (Hai Phong, Hue, Thai Nguyen and Thai Binh) review Year 1 modules and courses of 6-years course

Clinical training improvement is a critical part of medical curriculum reform. On April 18-20, 2018, in Ha Noi, IMPACT MED Alliance with the support of Harvard Medical School (HMS) experts organize an international workshop focus on clinical training improvement for core faculty group of five University of Medicine and Pharmacy (2018-2019) (UMPs). This 2.5-day workshop is the first in the series of workshops which make up the 2-year Clinical Educators Faculty Development Course, Teaching and Education Innovation in Viet Nam.

Under the framework of the IMPACT MED to support 5 UMPs in their curriculum reform, from March 26-30, 2018,  HAIVN/HMS  invited Prof. Andrew Lichtman. M.D., Ph.D.  Professor of Pathology, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Pathways Curriculum Preclinical Course Director/Steering Committee Member, Harvard Medical School to provide technical assistance to core groups of faculty of the universities engaging in the project. 

Havard experts support the reform of the clinical training at IMPACT MED Alliance partner universities

Practice of Medicine (POM) is an innovative medical education course in Vietnam which exposes students to clinical teaching and patient contact early in their medical education.

Medical education reform, which focus on curriculum improvement and clinical training is main priority of Vietnam Ministry of Health (MOH). The USAID Improving Access, Curriculum and Teaching in Medical Education and Emerging Diseases (IMPACT-MED) Alliance initiative received appreciable recognition from MOH.

The USAID Improving Access, Curriculum and Teaching in Medical Education and Emerging Diseases (IMPACT-MED) Alliance is extending technical support in medical curriculum reform and innovation to 5 medical universities all of which are slated to receive funding from the Health Professional Education and Training for Health System Reforms (HPET) MOH project

From July 3 – 6, USAID’s medical improvement project – the IMPACT MED Alliance collaborates with the VNCH to organize a series of activities with the goal of enhancing the capacity of the hospitals’ IPC unit

On 30 May 2017, HAIVN and VNCH organized a launching ceremony to officially kick off the collaboration toward improving the hospital’s infection prevention and control (IPC)

Culminating last week, IMPACT MED project held a series of workshops at three partner medical universities (Ho Chi Minh University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, and Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy) with technical support from Professor Andrew Lichtman

 On 23 February 2017, HAIVN hosted the first IMPACT MED Alliance Partners Meeting. The purpose of the Partner’s Meeting was to provide an opportunity for Alliance members to provide input to the project’s direction, to share information about their planned contributions, and to discuss the best way to work together as an Alliance to ensure the success of the project.

 In October and November 2016, HAIVN and TUMP have been working intensely to develop a comprehensive and effective working plan on medication curriculum reform. The first step is conducting a Joint Comprehensive Reform Assessment (JCRA)

From September 26th to October 4th, 2016, The Partnership for Health Advancement in Vietnam (HAIVN) and the IMPACT MED Alliance arranged an immersion trip to Harvard Medical School (HMS) for three HCM UMP faculty who are directors in the new curriculum (Immunology and Hematology/ Oncology).
