From September 26th to October 4th, 2016, The Partnership for Health Advancement in Vietnam (HAIVN) and the IMPACT MED Alliance arranged an immersion trip to Harvard Medical School (HMS) for three HCM UMP faculty who are directors in the new curriculum (Immunology and Hematology/ Oncology). HCM UMP faculty attended classes and worked intensively on module development with their respective HMS faculty counterparts. The outcomes of the trip included a course map of the respective modules, detailed course learning objectives with paired pedagogic methods. HCM UMP faculty participated in HMS’ Case Based Collaborative Learning (CBCL) and learned methods to implement CBCL™ at HCM UMP with the new Samsung Smart Classroom.

Additionally, from October 17-20, 2016, thru IMPACT MED, HAIVN and HCM UMP organized a four-day workshop to (1) introduce the innovative IMPACT MED twinning model of technical assistance between module directors of the new curriculum at HCM UMP with counterparts at HMS, and (2) conduct training on a novel tool to assess engagement of students in class, Classroom Observation Protocol Undergraduate STEM (COPUS).  Both of these novel concept were widely and enthusiastically accepted by HCM UMP faculty.
