These activities include a workshop to review the results of a joint-assessment that examined the policies and practices in a number of areas including HAI surveillance, hand hygiene practices, and prevention of various HAIs; a 2-day training on surveillance practices for HAIs; and on-site technical assistance from Dr. Tom Sandora, the hospital epidemiologist at Boston Children’s Hospital.

These USAID-supported trainings provided hospital’s leadership and IPC team with the knowledge and skills to understand the situation and develop a plan for improving IPC practices within the hospital.

Ensuring the hospital IPC good practices is critical to reducing the spread of emerging pandemic threats such as healthcare-associated infections and antibiotic resistance.
