On June 14th, IMPACT MED in partnership with Vietnam National Children’s Hospital (VNCH) and MSD - a private partners of IMPACT MED Alliance to organize a workshop on antimicrobial stewardship (AMS), which was attended by representatives from international organizations such as TRACT, WHO, CDC, PATH, ~100 VNCH staff, ~100 postgraduates studying at VNCH, ~60 representatives from provincial pediatric hospitals. Antimicrobial stewardship is currently weak in Vietnam; misuse and overuse of antibiotics is common, making the healthcare costly and antimicrobial resistance widespread in the country. The workshop is intended to tackle the antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) to improve the antibiotic use at VNCH, control the occurrence of antibacterial resistance and decrease the cost of treatment.
The workshop is the initial step of the hospital to implementation of antimicrobial stewardship program, also encouraging other hospitals to engage in this sound activity, to control the antimicrobial resistance problems and improve the healthcare service for children in the country.
